Vinyl Windows

Ultra slim picture windows for maximum glass

The F125 is the narrowest frame in the collection. It is built on a single-slider profile rather than a casement one, which strips the sightline back to the minimum and puts as much of the opening as possible into glass.

Where ultra slim picture windows suit a home

Specify an ultra slim unit where the view is the whole point. A window facing a garden, a ravine, a lake or anything else worth looking at gains more from a narrower frame than from any other single decision, because every millimetre taken out of the profile becomes glass.

They also suit contemporary elevations, where a heavy frame reads as dated. On a modern build with large openings and minimal trim, the slim profile is what makes the glazing look intentional rather than merely large.

The trade-off is span. A slimmer profile carries less load than a fixed casement, so on a genuinely wide opening the structural frame is the right answer even though it shows more vinyl. We work out which side of that line an opening falls on at the measure.

How they compare

Against a standard picture window: the same job with less frame. The F150 is the workhorse; the F125 is what you specify when the sightline genuinely matters.

Against a fixed casement: the fixed casement spans further because its frame is structural. Choose the ultra slim for the view, the fixed casement for the width.

One thing to plan for: like every fixed unit, an ultra slim picture window will never ventilate and cannot serve as bedroom egress. Pair it with an operating casement or awning where the room needs air.

Questions

Ultra Slim Picture Windows: common questions

Read all 20 questions homeowners ask →

Are ENERGY STAR windows worth it in Ontario?

Yes, ENERGY STAR qualified windows are certified to perform in Canada's climate zones, and they make the biggest difference in older homes with single-pane or failed double-pane glass. Low-E coatings and argon fill cut radiant heat loss in winter and solar gain in summer. Comfort improves immediately, particularly the cold draft near seating placed against an exterior wall.

How long do vinyl windows last?

Quality vinyl windows last several decades in Ontario's climate. Vinyl does not rot, rust or need repainting, and the frames will not blister, peel or flake the way a painted finish does, so the practical limit is usually the sealed glass unit rather than the frame itself. Cleaning the frames and glass twice a year is all the upkeep they need.

How do I know when it is time to replace my windows?

Replace a window when the sealed unit has fogged, the frame has rotted or warped, or the sash no longer closes and locks properly. Persistent drafts, ice on the interior frame in winter, and condensation trapped between the panes all point to a failed unit rather than a repairable one. Difficulty opening a window is a safety issue where the opening serves as bedroom egress.
