Quad-Seal C1 casement window shown from inside at an angle, white vinyl frame with the sash cranked partly open

Casement Windows

Quad-Seal AW1 awning window viewed from outside at an angle, white vinyl sash swung open from the bottom

Awning Windows

An awning window hinges at the top and swings outward from the bottom. The open sash forms a small canopy over the opening, so the window can stay…

Sliding Windows

A slider moves horizontally along a track, so nothing projects outside the wall. That single fact decides most of the openings it gets used in,…

Hung Windows

A hung window slides vertically. On a single hung the bottom sash moves and the top stays fixed; on a double hung both operate. It is the profile…

Picture Windows

A fixed window does not open, and everything follows from that. With no sash to move; there is no hardware to fail and no seal to compress, a fixed…

Fixed Casement Windows

A fixed casement is a non-operating window built on a structural frame. It carries more load than a standard picture unit, which is what lets it span…

F125 ultra slim picture window shown from outside, narrow white vinyl frame around a single fixed pane

Ultra Slim Picture Windows

The F125 is the narrowest frame in the collection. It is built on a single-slider profile rather than a casement one, which strips the sightline back…

Energy

What actually makes a window efficient

Three things do most of the work. A Low-E coating reflects radiant heat back to the side it came from, indoors in winter, outdoors in summer. Argon fill between the panes conducts heat more slowly than air. And a multi-chamber vinyl frame breaks the path heat would otherwise take straight through the perimeter.

ENERGY STAR qualification means the assembled unit has been certified to perform in Canadian climate zones, which is a more useful signal than any single number on a spec sheet.

The fourth thing is the install. A certified window fitted into an uninsulated cavity will underperform an ordinary window fitted properly, every time.

How a window replacement runs

  1. Opening by opening

One window is removed and replaced before the next is touched, so the house is never broadly open. Each opening is exposed for well under an hour.

  2. Frame set square

The new unit is shimmed and checked for square and plumb. A frame set out of square will bind, and no amount of hardware adjustment fixes it later.

  3. Cavity insulated and sealed

The gap between frame and rough opening is insulated and air-sealed on both faces. This is the step that decides how the window actually performs.

  4. Trimmed, capped and cleaned

Interior trim refitted, exterior capping fitted where specified, old units hauled away and the site cleaned before the crew leaves.

Questions

Vinyl window questions homeowners ask

Read all 20 questions homeowners ask →

How long do vinyl windows last?

Quality vinyl windows last several decades in Ontario's climate. Vinyl does not rot, rust or need repainting, and the frames will not blister, peel or flake the way a painted finish does, so the practical limit is usually the sealed glass unit rather than the frame itself. Cleaning the frames and glass twice a year is all the upkeep they need.

Do I need a permit to replace windows in Ontario?

No building permit is required to replace a window in its existing opening at the same size. A permit is needed when the opening is made larger or smaller, when a new opening is cut, or when the work affects a structural header. Heritage-designated properties have their own approval process. We flag any opening that needs a permit during the in-home consultation, before quoting.

Can windows be replaced in winter in Ontario?

Yes, windows can be replaced through an Ontario winter. Installers work one opening at a time, so the house is never broadly open to the cold and each room is exposed for well under an hour. Modern sealants and foams are formulated to cure at low temperatures. Winter is often the fastest time to book, since demand drops after the autumn rush.

Are ENERGY STAR windows worth it in Ontario?

Yes, ENERGY STAR qualified windows are certified to perform in Canada's climate zones, and they make the biggest difference in older homes with single-pane or failed double-pane glass. Low-E coatings and argon fill cut radiant heat loss in winter and solar gain in summer. Comfort improves immediately, particularly the cold draft near seating placed against an exterior wall.

How do I know when it is time to replace my windows?

Replace a window when the sealed unit has fogged, the frame has rotted or warped, or the sash no longer closes and locks properly. Persistent drafts, ice on the interior frame in winter, and condensation trapped between the panes all point to a failed unit rather than a repairable one. Difficulty opening a window is a safety issue where the opening serves as bedroom egress.
