Fibreglass entry doors with a real oak grain
A fibreglass door gives you the look of stained wood without the maintenance of it. The skin is compression-molded with a genuine oak grain deep enough to read as timber from the curb, and it takes stain the way wood does.

Where fibreglass entry doors suit a home
Fibreglass is the choice when the door is a design element rather than just a barrier. On a home where the entrance is framed by stone or a covered porch, the estate stock around Kleinburg, King City and north Vaughan, or a well-kept century home in Unionville, a stained fibreglass door reads correctly where a white steel panel would not.
It also outperforms steel thermally. The polyurethane core carries roughly six times the insulating value of a solid wood door, and unlike steel there is no continuous metal skin to conduct cold across the panel.
The engineering behind it is what keeps it stable: compression-molded skins that resist warping, splitting and cracking, PVC stiles and rails that do not bow or rot, and a PVC foam rail shielding the bottom of the door against the moisture that destroys wooden ones.
Features
- High-impact compression-molded skins that resist warping, splitting and cracking

- PVC stiles and rails that do not bow or rot; PVC foam rail shielding against moisture
- Extended full-length wood lock block accommodating a wide range of handle sets
- Supports multi-point locking systems and a broad choice of deadbolts
- CFC-free core
How they compare
Against a steel door: fibreglass insulates better and looks like wood; steel resists impact better and costs less. Both are custom-built to the opening and both carry a 20-year panel warranty.
Against real wood: fibreglass holds its finish far longer, because the stain sits on a stable substrate that does not swell and shrink through an Ontario year. A wood door on a south or west elevation needs refinishing on a cycle you will come to resent.
One thing worth planning for with a stained finish: a fresh clear coat every couple of years and the jamb resealed periodically keeps it looking new. It is far less work than refinishing a wood door, but it is not nothing.
Is a steel or fibreglass entry door better?
Steel offers the best security and value, while fibreglass offers the best insulation and a convincing wood look. Steel doors are hot-dipped galvanized with a bonded polyurethane foam core and a solid wood lock block. Fibreglass doors use a compression-molded skin over a polyurethane core with roughly six times the insulating value of a solid wood door, and take stain over an oak grain finish.
Can I install a storm door over a new entry door?
No, a storm door should not be fitted over a new entry door, because trapped solar heat builds up between the two panels and can warp the door or damage the finish. This applies to both steel and fibreglass units. If you want the extra draft protection a storm door offers, tell us at the consultation and we will address it through weatherstripping and sill adjustment instead.
Can an entry door be made to fit a non-standard opening?
Yes, entry doors are custom-made to the opening rather than trimmed down from a stock size, which matters in older homes where a stock-size door will not fit. Century homes, converted side entrances and basement walk-outs frequently have short or narrow openings. We measure the actual opening at the consultation and build to it, so the brick and trim stay untouched.
